Eligible providers (or Eligible Professionals, EPs), include Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Dentists. Physician Assistants (PA) who provide services in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or rural health clinic (RHC) that is led by a PA are also considered to be Eligible Professionals. Other eligibility criteria include Medicaid, or in some cases needy individual patient, volume thresholds and meeting meaningful use or adoption of certified EHR technology.
Meaningful Use standards are criteria set to ensure that your EHR system is fully operational and workflow is developed in a way that promotes quality care, efficiency and patient security and safety.
The Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive program does not require any federally approved plans. The Incentives are awarded for meeting Meaningful Use as described in the rules and regulations of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Eligible Providers (EPs), however, are responsible for developing their own plans to meet Meaningful Use. The EPs may obtain assistance from the Hawaii-Pacific HIT Regional Extension Centers (HITREC). As an Eligible Provider, the CHC and TASI have developed an internal work plan to meet Stage 1 of MU.
